“Habemus Papam!” We all cheered as we heard the news of our new Holy Father, Pope Francis, a man of the Americas. Little did we suspect the monumental changes in substance and style we would witness. Pope Francis chose the name Francis to indicate his desire that the Church be simple and for the poor. I think that the years of Pope Francis will be full of change to the Church, change that will help the Church more clearly and with fidelity speak the message of Jesus Christ to the people of the world. At his first Public Audience held on the Wednesday of Holy Week, the Pope encouraged us to “step outside ourselves so as to attend to the needs of others: those who long for a sympathetic ear, those in need of comfort or help.” As I write this message, we are about to enter into the Sacred Triduum, and will witness the great deeds done by God to forgive our sins and bring us life in abundance. Soon, the “Alleluias” will ring again, and Jesus’ risen life will be celebrated. As we celebrate new spiritual life with Easter, we also celebrate (hopefully) the end of winter and the resurrection of nature in springtime. Father John Hanley, O.M.I, Director
